The Workday services market is entering a new phase. Buyers are no longer selecting partners solely to implement software but also to help drive business transformation, AI adoption, platform innovation, and continuous value realization. At the same time, many providers now look remarkably similar on paper, with comparable certifications, methodologies, industry expertise, and accelerators. This creates a new buyer challenge: selecting both the right provider and the right delivery team. Two new Forrester reports tackle these questions from different but complementary perspectives: The Forrester Buyer’s Guide To Workday Services, 2026 helps buyers understand how the market is evolving, identify emerging provider archetypes, and evaluate the strategic capabilities needed for successful transformations. The Human Side Of Workday Services: How Talent, Team Design, And Delivery Leadership Determine Success explores the people factors that often determine project success, including team stability, leadership continuity, communication quality, and delivery team design. A Market Shift Is Changing How Buyers Should Evaluate Providers Workday has become much more than an HR and finance platform. Organizations today use it to support AI initiatives, workforce transformation, data strategies, analytics, and operating model redesign. As a result, buyers must evaluate whether a provider’s strengths align with broader transformation goals, not just implementation requirements. The market is being reshaped by five major forces: AI becoming central to Workday programs Workday evolving into an enterprise platform Continuous value realization replacing traditional application management services Industry expertise becoming more important Business transformation overtaking technical implementation Perhaps the most important implication for buyers is that provider selection is becoming more strategic. The question is no longer “Who can implement Workday?” but rather “Who can help us evolve our operating model, activate AI, modernize processes, and continuously improve business outcomes?” Providers are beginning to differentiate less through implementation methodologies and more through their transformation, innovation, industry, and lifecycle capabilities. Execution Still Depends On People While the market is evolving rapidly, our research found that many implementation outcomes are still determined by a much simpler factor: the people assigned to the engagement. Customer interviews conducted for The Forrester Wave™: Workday Services, Q2 2026 consistently revealed that successful projects were often associated with strong delivery leaders, stable teams, effective communication, and deep business expertise. Conversely, project challenges frequently stemmed from consultant turnover, weak leadership continuity, or teams lacking the experience to connect technology decisions to business objectives. Buyers repeatedly told us that: The proposed team often matters more than the system integrator brand. Consultant turnover remains a major source of frustration. Strong project management offices can make or break large programs. Buyers want advisors, not just configurators. Communication and cultural fit matter. Continuity matters more than delivery location. As Workday implementations mature, this human dimension may actually become more important. AI will automate portions of testing, documentation, configuration, and support activities, making leadership, advisory skills, stakeholder management, industry expertise, and transformation experience even more valuable differentiators. Use A Two-Lens Model To Evaluate Workday Services Providers The strongest buyer decisions come from applying two lenses. Lens 1: Provider Fit Does the provider align with your transformation goals? Does it possess the required AI, industry, platform, and lifecycle capabilities? Is its delivery model aligned with your long-term objectives? Lens 2: Team Fit Are the actual delivery leaders the right people for the job? Is the team stable? Does the provider have sufficient bench strength? Do consultants bring business and industry expertise alongside Workday skills? Is the team structure designed for your program’s complexity? Too many buyers focus heavily on the first lens and assume that the second will take care of itself, but our research suggests that this approach creates unnecessary risk. As providers continue to converge around methodologies, certifications, and platform expertise, the quality of the delivery team may become one of the last truly sustainable differentiators in the market. Change The Workday Services RFP Buyers should embed both lenses into the RFP and contracting process. Strategic capability questions should assess transformation, industry expertise, AI readiness, delivery excellence, change management, innovation, extensibility, and lifecycle value realization. Talent-focused diligence should then validate the actual team behind those claims. Buyers should: Require named resources for critical leadership and workstream roles. Interview the proposed program manager, architects, and functional leads. Examine consultant tenure, attrition, bench depth, and succession planning. Test whether consultants bring operational and industry experience in addition to certifications. Evaluate communication style and cultural fit during the sales process. Define knowledge-transfer expectations and controls over key-person changes. Assess how onshore, nearshore, and offshore resources will operate as one accountable team. Buyers should also carry these commitments into the contract. Named-resource provisions, replacement standards, transition obligations, leadership-continuity expectations, and governance mechanisms can help ensure that the team presented during selection remains connected to the team responsible for delivery.
