Exclusive: 75% of Americans Now Oppose Local Data Center Development

A new Heatmap Pro poll conducted by Embold Research finds 75% of Americans now oppose data center construction near their homes, with over 60% strongly opposed. This marks a 33-point shift against data centers in just 12 months, from near-even 43/42 split in August 2025 to the current supermajority opposition. Opposition is consistent across partisan lines, with Republicans 43 points underwater, independents 65 points, and Democrats 75 points against local data center development. Only 4% of Americans now strongly support nearby data center proposals, down from 13% a year ago. The backlash has reached mainstream culture and is influencing electoral politics, including the Wisconsin governor's race where candidates from both parties are distancing themselves from data centers.
