Core42, TII make UAE sovereignty push

G42-owned Core42 struck a deal with Abu Dhabi-government funded Technology Innovation Institute (TII) to expand locally-developed digital sovereignty and cybersecurity capabilities. The deal signed at the GISEC Global 2026 show in Dubai brings together Core42’s sovereign cloud and AI capabilities with TII’s cybersecurity research and technology development. They plan to explore how UAE-developed security technologies can strengthen the protection, resilience and compliance of sovereign digital infrastructure and AI environments. Core42, which is owned by heavily-funded AI company G42, intends to collaborate with TII to develop and deploy security-enhancing technologies across its sovereign cloud, and generative and agentic AI platform Compass. The scope includes hardware security modules, confidential computing, encrypted AI inferencing, secure key management and distribution, data protection mechanisms and encryption technologies. More broadly, the pair plan to develop critical technology capabilities within the UAE, create pathways for home-grown innovation, and address AI sovereignty and cloud requirements. Protection The initiative “reinforces the UAE’s growing role as a centre for advanced technology development”, the companies stated. Rajeev Nair, SVP Special Projects at Core42, explained the importance of sovereignty for infrastructure and data activities, along with the need to develop technology capabilities “to protect them from all angles”. G42 has backing from US private equity company Silver Lake, Microsoft and the Abu Dhabi wealth fund Mubadala Investment Co. The company is also in exploratory talks with potential investors to raise billions of additional dollars to fund its expansion across AI, data centres and chips.
